Why The Great Bustard?
Following its full restoration, the pub has been re-named The Great Bustard. It is part of the Great Durnford working estate where Great Bustard birds, once almost hunted to extinction, were re-wilded to the UK. These magnificent creatures, one of the world’s heaviest flying birds, have been re-introduced in the Salisbury area. The population is now at around 100 birds.
Do I need to book a table in the restaurant?
We will always do our best to accommodate you but we recommend that you book your table prior to arrival to avoid disappointment, especially for weekend and summer bookings.
Can I book a table for drinks?
We don’t book tables for drinks, but we do have a couple of tables in the pub area and benches by the bar for walk-ins. Tables here are on a first come, first serve basis.
What time is breakfast served?
Breakfast is served in the dining room, Monday to Friday 7.30am to 10am, Saturday and Sunday 8.00am to 10.30am
Can children eat in the restaurant?
Of course. There are no restrictions on children dining in the restaurant or pub, both have a children’s menu. Please let us know if you’ll need a highchair.
Is there a service charge?
Your final restaurant bill will be subject to a 12.5% discretionary service charge.
Can I bring my own wine/champagne?
Guests wishing to bring their own wine to consume in the restaurant may do so by prior consultation with the General Manager 01722 703582 or info@thegreatbustard.uk. Our corkage charge is £30 per standard bottle of wine or sparkling wine and £50 per standard bottle of champagne.
Dogs
The Great Bustard is dog friendly. Dogs are allowed in the bar area of the pub and on one of the outside terraces. Please note that only the pub menu is available to guests in these areas. Dogs are not permitted in the main restaurant or the Black Grouse private dining room. We have two dog-friendly bedrooms.
Accessibility before you arrive
We always encourage telephone enquiries so that we can discuss your requirements before you arrive. Our staff are trained and ready to assist anyone with mobility problems or in a wheelchair.
Car parking
We have designated parking spaces at the front of The Great Bustard.
Restaurant
Our restaurant is located on the ground floor. Full waiter service is provided at breakfast, lunch and dinner. Please let us know in advance if you have any special dietary needs.
Bedrooms
We have two ground floor bedrooms that are suitable for use by guests with reduced mobility.
Cloakrooms
The Great Bustard has an accessible cloakroom next to the bar with handrails for customers requiring wheelchair access or those with reduced mobility.
Stay - How can I make a reservation?
Individual reservations or bookings for up to and including all of our 10 rooms, can be made with our reservation team by calling 01722 703582 or emailing info@thegreatbustard.uk or through the website.
What time is check-in/check-out?
The Great Bustard check-in is done at the Farm Shop and you can collect your room key from there any time from 2pm to 5pm on your day of arrival. If you will be arriving after 5pm, please contact our reception team to advise on your timings. Check-out is at 11am. Late check-out may be possible by prior arrangement with The Great Bustard and will be subject to an additional fee.
Can you accommodate children/babies in the rooms?
We can provide a travel cot for all rooms except Red Kite and Stone-Curlew
Wellness - How do I book a treatment?

What if I’m late for my spa treatment?
Please ensure you arrive in plenty of time (at least 15 minutes before your treatment); late arrivals may result in your treatment time being reduced or in some cases cancelled, with the full cost being charged.
I have a medical condition, am I still OK to visit?
It’s essential that you advise us of any medical conditions and allergies you may have prior to arrival and receiving your treatment(s) so that we can make sure they are suitable for you. Please don’t hesitate to ask for our advice when you make your booking.

Wireless internet is available throughout The Great Bustard free of charge.
How do I get there?
The Great Bustard is located in central south Wiltshire, three miles from the A303 with direct routes to London, Devon and Cornwall. Stonehenge is three miles away and we are six miles from the medieval city of Salisbury. It is a 75-minute drive to Heathrow Airport. The closest station is Salisbury railway station, which is approximately 15 minutes away by car.
Can I charge my car?
We have five EV chargers in the car park.
Parking
On-site car parking is on a first-come, first-served basis. Unfortunately, parking spaces cannot be guaranteed or pre-booked.
Smoking
For the comfort and safety of all guests, we do not allow smoking or vaping in any internal areas of The Great Bustard, including bedrooms. There are designated smoking areas outside in the garden.
